Newcastle Civic Theatre 2011 Showreel

The annual showreel for the Civic Theatre which is used to showcase the upcoming seasons shows.
For the 2011 showreel - following on from the gorgeous print design done by the art studio - we decided to use a paint drip and brushing effect. Instead of digitally creating this, we decided to get our hands dirty and manually paint the effects.. we created a rig in the studio which allowed us to film black paint being brushed against a white background. Then brought the footage into After Effects, where we used the filmed paint effects as a mask to 'wipe-on' each show. Great fun!
